Adjustability. The
feature of a band that allows it to be tightened
or loosened.
Adjustable Gastric Banding (aka LAP-BAND). Placement
of an adjustable silicone band around the stomach
to restrict food intake.
Adjustment. Another name for
a fill or an unfill, where the amount of saline
solution in the band is increased or decreased
to control the size of the stoma.
AGB. Adjustable Gastric Banding
Angelchik. An anti gastro-esophageal
reflux procedure, in which a ring-shaped radiopaque
prothesis is placed around the esophagus after
reduction of a hiatal hernia, usually below
the diaphragm.
Balloon. (aka Gastric Balloon). With
this procedure, a device much like a balloon
is implanted in the stomach and then inflated.
It takes up space in the stomach so that less
food can be ingested.
Bandster. 1. Common term for
someone who has had a band operation. Not all
banded people are necessarily Bandsters. 2.
Member of an online, local, and national group
which share the Bandster name.
Bariatrics. The branch of
medicine that deals with the treatment of obesity.
From the Greek barys=heavy and -iatrics=medical
treatment.
Bash. 1. A Bandster convention
(The Tijuana Bandster Bash was the first.)
2. To denigrate a particular doctor (considered
poor form). |
