Chapter
4: The Workup!
One
of the most appealing things about the LAP-BAND is
the safety with which it can be performed while dealing
with a group of people that is at a higher risk of
having mild to life-threatening complications. It
is because of this that all patients submitting themselves
to gastric band surgery must have a complete medical
evaluation independent of age, prior medical history
or current health status.
The evaluation has a team approach: it involves coordinators, a psychologist,
nutritionist, cardiologist, and anesthesiologist, and of course the surgeon.
In some cases, when warranted, other medical specialties such as internal medicine,
endocrinology, intensive care, and paleontology are brought in. |
